Dr. Baker
Dr. Baker grew up in Denver, CO. It was in eighth grade that he attended an Open House at the Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital and decided he wanted to become a veterinarian. His first job in the veterinary field was at Belcaro Animal Hospital in Denver. He was convinced that this was definitely the career for him. Dr. Baker attended Colorado State University from 1980 – 1987, where he received his Bachelor’s degree and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
Dr. Baker moved to southern California with the idea of doing the California Adventure for five years and then returning to Colorado. Life took him in another direction and he stayed in California for 36 years. He became an owner and partner at TLC Pet Medical Centers where he practiced and served as the Medical director at both their West Hollywood and South Pasadena locations. After the partnership sold the practices, he worked with friends for about five years.
It was in 2021 that Dr. Baker’s wife, Sondra, woke up one morning in beautiful southern California and said that she was tired of the rattlesnakes, scorpions, spiders and other challenges of living in the high desert and it was time to find a new home. After much house and soul searching, they moved back to Colorado where they have made a home that brings them much joy. Dr. Baker started working at Caring Hands Veterinary Hospital in July 2023. Dr. Baker is currently serving as the Medical Director for Caring Hands. After 36 years of practicing Veterinary Medicine, he still enjoys all the delights that make this profession so wonderful. He really enjoys getting to know his clients and helping their furry loved ones stay healthy, and happy throughout their lives. Dr. Baker worked for many years as both a general practitioner and an emergency and critical care veterinarian; his interests are in challenging internal medicine and critical care cases. His greatest thrill is to squeeze and cuddle with as many kittens and puppies as he can!
Outside or work Dr. Baker is an occasional scuba diver and has been blessed with the ability to dive all around the world. He completely enjoys all the beauty the Colorado outdoors offers and loves hiking and walking with Sondra and their dog, Dobby, the nutty Chihuahua. Dr. Baker holds a black belt in Suh Do Kwan Kung Fu and he is an avid Ping Pong player. He likes to work out and you may see him locally at the Trail Winds recreation center, pumping iron, playing Pickle ball with Sondra, or taking a lap around the lazy river.
Dr. Baker looks forward to meeting you and your furry family members!
